Most Popular Top-Loading Kiln - GTS 41

Fiber Lid

The GTS 41 kiln features a lid made from a specialized fiber material, notable for its superb thermal characteristics and lightweight nature. This innovative design strategically places the heating elements on the lid's surface, enhancing heat distribution and optimizing firing efficiency.

In its construction, the lid utilizes a highly refined, extremely low-shot fiber material. To further improve its quality, the lid's surface is layered with a no-shot fiber sheet. The combination of these two materials results in a lid that is not only lighter but also significantly reduces the possibility of debris falling onto the glass during the firing process, ensuring a cleaner and more precise outcome.

Top Access

The GTS 41 features a vertical-loading configuration and boasts a spacious interior chamber measuring 41 inches in width, 25.25 inches in length, and 13.5 inches in depth. Conveniently, the chamber's rim is situated 32 inches above the floor, aligning with waist or lower height. This ergonomic design simplifies the process of loading and arranging glass within the kiln.

Fire and Firebrick Design

The GTS 41 kiln skillfully integrates two distinct materials in its construction: fiber and firebrick.

The lid is exclusively made of fiber, significantly reducing its weight and virtually eliminating the risk of loose firebrick particles contaminating the glass surface during firing.

Conversely, the kiln's walls and floor are crafted from firebrick. This material is particularly beneficial in glass kilns due to its heat retention properties. At the onset of firing, it absorbs heat, helping to stabilize temperature fluctuations. Then, towards the end of the firing process, it gradually releases heat, contributing to a superior annealing process. The result is truly remarkable.

Inheriting its design philosophy from the Studio Pro series, the GTS 41 represents a fusion of these two exceptional materials, culminating in what is arguably one of the finest kilns available.

Swing View Equipped

The temperature controls of the GTS 41 are incorporated into Evenheat's innovative Swing View Adjustable Enclosure.

This feature comprises a versatile, swing-up enclosure that enables you to pivot and adjust the control panel to your preferred viewing and programming angle. After setting or programming, you can simply lay it back down, allowing for easy visibility from anywhere in your studio. Its simplicity and convenience are key highlights.

Moreover, the Swing View is exceptionally compatible with touchscreen controls such as the TAP II, Icon+, and Icon. This compatibility ensures that the viewing angle can be precisely aligned for optimal ease of use. You're sure to appreciate the practicality and user-friendliness of this design.

2-Position Lid Vent

The GTS 41 features a lid vent adjustable to two positions.

In its lower setting, the vent raises the lid approximately one inch, optimizing the release of fumes from adhesives and other materials that bind at low temperatures.

When set to its upper position, the vent elevates the lid around four inches, facilitating a quicker cooling process.

Relay Access Port

The GTS 41 features a convenient Relay Access Port, designed for straightforward and hassle-free relay replacement without the need to disassemble the control panel.

To access the mechanical relays, simply remove the access plate. This eliminates the cumbersome process of removing the entire control panel and navigating through internal wiring. The process is remarkably easy and efficient, requiring nothing more than a screwdriver.

Given the inevitability of mechanical relay failures over time, this Relay Access Port proves to be an extremely practical and time-saving feature when maintenance is needed.

Power Interrupt Switch

The GTS 41 comes standard with a power interrupt switch, designed to automatically cut off electrical power to all heating elements whenever the lid is opened.

This safety feature is particularly crucial for users who might need to open the kiln during firing processes, such as for glass manipulation, ensuring a safer and more controlled working environment.

Embracing Solid-State Relays: A Revolution in Kiln Technology

Solid-state relays (SSRs) are a substantial improvement over traditional mechanical relays, which rely on physical contacts and electromagnets. SSRs use a solid-state semiconductor, eliminating moving parts, thereby reducing wear and significantly improving temperature control in kilns.

Advantage 1 - Superior Longevity:

SSRs are known for their extended lifespan, devoid of the mechanical wear and electrical arcing typical in mechanical relays. Unlike mechanical relays, which can be identified by a distinctive clicking sound denoting their operation and eventual wear, Evenheat's SSRs operate silently and reliably, greatly extending their operational life to align with the lifespan of your kiln.

Advantage 2 - Unmatched Temperature Precision:

Whereas mechanical relays typically cycle every 10 to 14 seconds to balance control and longevity, SSRs can cycle as frequently as 120 times per second. This rapid cycling capability allows for swift adjustments and exceptional temperature accuracy. Every Evenheat control system, including the sophisticated Icon controller, benefits from the rapid cycling of SSRs, achieving unparalleled temperature precision.

Advantage 3 - Extended Heating Element Life:

Employing Zero Crossing technology, SSRs activate at the zero-voltage point in AC power cycles, a strategy that prolongs the life of heating elements by maintaining optimal voltage levels. This contrasts with mechanical relays, which lack this level of precision.

Design Excellence - 30 Amp Rating:

Evenheat opts for SSRs rated at 30 amps but operates them at a conservative 15 amps. This design approach provides a substantial safety margin, ensuring the SSRs function within their derating curve even at a 15-amp load. This results in cooler operation and enhanced lifespan, reflecting Evenheat's commitment to superior design.

Design Excellence - Externally Mounted SSR Heatsinks:

The durability of SSRs greatly depends on effective cooling. To this end, Evenheat mounts the SSR heatsinks externally, promoting airflow and preventing heat buildup inside the control box. This design prevents heat transfer between the enclosure and the SSRs, with standoffs creating an air gap for additional cooling. This thoughtful design guarantees optimal performance of the SSRs, supported by an impressive six-year record of zero failures.
