Key Features

Top Load

Capable of daily cone 10 firings, the HF 2918 boasts a vertical loading configuration with a chamber that measures 29 inches in diameter and 18 inches deep.

Lid Handle

Evenheat understands the significance of handles. The correct size and shape of handles are essential for the task at hand. The lid handles provided for the HF Studio Series by Evenheat exemplify this principle, featuring a 13" handle meticulously crafted for a comfortable grip and smooth operation. These wide, corner-mounted handles facilitate confident and effortless lifting, even when wearing gloves. They distinguish themselves from others on the market, delivering a delightful user experience.

Dyna-Lift Lid Lift Assist

All High Fire studio models are equipped with Evenheat's Patented Dyna-Lift lid lift assist as a standard feature.

The Dyna-Lift significantly reduces the effort required to operate the kiln lid, accomplishing this task smoothly and gracefully without any adverse effects on the kiln.

Key features of this design include the absence of a connection to the kiln body, a single-point lifting system, and a focus on allowing the lid to function naturally.

In contrast, competing lid lift designs attach the lifting mechanism directly to the kiln itself. This places all the lifting forces on the kiln chamber, leading to significant weakening and damage over time. Our Dyna-Lift takes a different approach by channeling all lifting forces to the kiln stand itself.

The Dyna-Lift stands as the ultimate Lid Lift Assist that ensures no damage to your kiln!

Multi-zone Control

The HF 2918 comes with an advanced multi-zone control system. This technology employs multiple thermocouples (temperature sensors) to efficiently oversee and maintain the heat levels within the firing chamber.

3" Firebrick with No Loss in Chamber Volume

As the evolution of kiln design unfolded, the 2-1/2" firebrick played a pivotal role. However, the rise in high-temperature requirements marked the dominance of the 3" firebrick, prompting many kiln manufacturers to make adjustments. Their choice was to shrink the firing chamber to accommodate the thicker insulation while leaving the kiln's external dimensions unchanged.

In contrast, Evenheat pursued a distinctive path. Instead of reducing the chamber's size, they retained its ample interior space and expanded the external dimensions. This innovative approach preserves the chamber's capacity, ensuring a seamless fit for standard kiln furniture. This considerate design decision underscores a commitment to maintaining compatibility and user-friendliness.

Swing-Away Peephole Covers

Evenheat's kiln designs feature swing-away peephole covers, departing from the traditional use of plugs.

Conventional plugs tend to go missing or get damaged over time. In contrast, Evenheat's integrated peephole covers stay securely attached to the kiln, enabling convenient swinging open and closing. This design ensures they won't be lost or suffer damage.

Lid Security Bar

The HF 2918 is thoughtfully equipped with a lid prop bar, expertly crafted to maintain the lid securely in an open position. This handy feature works in perfect harmony with our carefully engineered lid handle, enhancing the ease and fluidity of the kiln's operation.

Relay Access Port

The HF 2918 showcases Evenheat's Relay Access Port, a cleverly designed feature that simplifies and streamlines relay replacement without the need to disassemble the entire panel.

Users can easily remove the access plate to gain direct access to the mechanical relays, eliminating the necessity to remove the control panel or deal with intricate internal wiring. This process is remarkably straightforward and efficient, requiring only a screwdriver.

Recognizing that mechanical relays may eventually encounter issues, Evenheat's introduction of the relay access port proves to be an invaluable resource during such situations.

While Pottery Pulse strongly recommends considering the Quiet Drive Solid State Relay system, for those working within a budget, this feature stands out as a practical and accessible option.

Quiet Drive Solid State Relay

Embark on a journey with Evenheat's Quiet Drive Solid State Relay System, a pinnacle of innovation characterized by its absence of moving parts, offering a long-lasting, maintenance-free existence. Revel in its superior performance, delivering precise and consistent heating to maintain your kiln's optimal functionality.

Exploring Relay Technology: Solid-state relays (SSRs) emerge as a robust and dependable alternative to conventional mechanical relays, known for their moving parts and electromagnetic coils. SSRs employ a solid semiconductor mechanism, eliminating mechanical wear and providing significant advantages in kiln temperature management.

Advantage 1 - Exceptional Durability: SSRs are renowned for their extended lifespan, resistant to the mechanical wear and electrical arcing common in mechanical relays. The familiar clicking sound often associated with kilns signifies the operation of mechanical relays, which over time leads to wear and the need for costly repairs. Conversely, Evenheat's SSRs offer silent and reliable operation that aligns seamlessly with your kiln.

Advantage 2 - Superior Temperature Precision: Mechanical relays have limited cycling frequencies to prolong their lifespan, while SSRs can cycle as frequently as 120 times per second, enabling swift adjustments and unmatched temperature precision. All Evenheat controls, including the standard Icon controller, benefit from the rapid cycling of SSRs to ensure precise temperature control.

Advantage 3 - Prolonged Heating Element Life: SSRs incorporate Zero Crossing technology, engaging and disengaging at the zero-voltage point of AC power cycles. This significantly extends the lifespan of heating elements by ensuring they operate at optimal voltage, reducing wear compared to mechanical relays lacking this feature.

Design Excellence - 30 Amp Capacity: Evenheat carefully selects SSRs with a 30 amp rating but operates them at a cautious 15 amps, providing a significant safety margin for reliable performance. This practice ensures SSRs remain well within their derating curve, promoting cooler operation and enhanced longevity, all upheld by Evenheat's commitment to quality.

Design Excellence - External SSR Heatsinks: Effective cooling is essential for the longevity of SSRs. Evenheat addresses this by externally mounting SSR heatsinks, improving airflow and preventing heat buildup inside the control enclosure. This design approach minimizes heat transfer between the control enclosure and the SSR, with standoffs creating a gap for cooling air. This meticulous approach guarantees that SSRs function at their optimal capacity, as evidenced by an impressive six-year track record of zero failures.

FAQs - Configuring Your Kiln

There are certain selections you must choose. And then there are options you can click on or ignore. The answers below should help you make the best choices for you.

Which Kiln Voltage Should I Select?

Higher voltage means lower amperage draw and greater efficiency, which can save money long term. 240V and 208V cost the same—most home studios use 240V, while 208V is common in schools or large facilities. Amperage refers to the amount of electrical current a kiln draws—higher amps require heavier wiring and breakers.

What's The Difference Between Single-Phase and Three-Phase?

Single-phase is what almost all homes have. If your facility has three-phase, you can choose either—but three-phase is typically the better long-term option due to smoother power and improved efficiency.

Which Relay Option Do I Need?

Mechanical relays are standard and reliable. Solid-state relays (SSR) offer silent operation, faster cycling, greater precision, and longer lifespan—ideal for frequent or high-accuracy firings.
