The most compact model in the KH Series

The KH 414 provides a depth of 13.5 inches. Its minimal footprint is particularly beneficial in workshops where space is limited. Due to its reduced size, the KH 414 features a unique wrap-around heating element and does not include a heating element on the back wall.

120V North American Operation

The KH Series heat treat ovens are tailored specifically for North American users who only have access to 120V, aligning with the standard household voltage in North America.

While these models efficiently achieve the desired temperatures, it's important to note that they take approximately twice as long to heat up compared to their 240V counterparts. Typically, they can reach 1650°F in around 1.5 hours.

Side Opening Door

Heat treating involves the extraction of extremely hot materials from the chamber for quenching. In this process, everything inside the chamber, including the door, becomes very hot. The doors on the KH models are designed to swing outwards and to the side. This design ensures that the intensely heated door is positioned far from you, allowing you to focus safely on the task at hand.

Cool Touch Handle

The handle/latch on the swing-out door is strategically placed at the front, not obscured on the side. This handle, made of phenolic material, remains cool to the touch. It's designed for one-handed operation and also functions as the door latch, providing convenience and ease of use.

Relay Access Port

Every KH model features Evenheat's user-friendly Relay Access Port, designed for effortless relay replacement without the need to disassemble the panel.

To access the relay, you only need to remove the access plate, eliminating the hassle of detaching the control panel and navigating through intricate internal wiring. The process is straightforward and efficient, requiring just a screwdriver.

Given that mechanical relays are prone to eventual failure, this convenient relay access port is a significant advantage when the need for replacement arises.

Door Shield

The KH models are equipped with a door shield that serves dual purposes: it safeguards against damage to the firebrick and also helps in lowering the temperature at the door and handle, enhancing protection and safety.

Swing View Equipped

Evenheat's TAP II and RampMaster 3 temperature controls are integrated into its innovative Swing View Adjustable Enclosure.

2200°F (1205°C) Maximum Temperature

The maximum usable temperature for the KH models is 2200°F (1205°C). This maximum is well within the range for the vast majority of steels used by knife makers and machine shops.

Evenheat's KH 418 model features a side-element-only design borrowed from its LB Series models.

Maximum temperature is limited by the heating element wire used. Evenheat uses a Sandvik Nickel-Chrome alloy wire for all KH model heating elements. This alloy has proven to last, it tends to stay put and generally plays very nice when used at temps below 2200°F.

What exactly is a relay?

Solid state relays (SSRs) offer a robust and reliable alternative to traditional mechanical relays, which use metal contacts opening and closing via an electrically arcing magnet coil. SSRs, in contrast, consist of a solid semiconductor block, eliminating moving parts and electrical arcing. For kilns, SSRs provide superior temperature control and several benefits over mechanical relays.

Advantage 1 - Longevity

The lack of moving parts and absence of arcing in SSRs translates to a significantly longer lifespan compared to mechanical relays. The familiar clicking noise from a kiln or furnace is the sound of its mechanical relays at work. These relays wear out over time due to continuous on/off cycling, leading to expensive repairs. However, Evenheat's SSRs promise silent, dependable operation throughout the life of your kiln or oven.

Advantage 2 - Precise Temperature Control

Mechanical relays are limited to a cycle no shorter than 10 to 14 seconds for balancing control and relay life, which is adequate for good control but not ideal for extremely tight temperature control. SSRs, however, operate at an astounding rate of 120 times per second, allowing for much quicker adjustments and thus more precise temperature control. All of Evenheat's controls are designed to utilize the speed of an SSR.

Advantage 3 - Enhanced Heating Element Durability

Evenheat's KH Series Heat Treating Oven uses SSRs with Zero Crossing technology, which switches on and off at exactly 0V during AC power line fluctuations. This feature significantly prolongs the life of heating elements compared to those powered by mechanical relays without this technology. Zero Crossing ensures that heating elements are powered at the correct voltage, optimizing their lifespan.

Design Excellence - 30 Amp Rating

Evenheat chose high-quality SSRs rated for 30 amps but operates them at just 15 amps, providing a safety margin to ensure longevity and reliable performance. Running SSRs at half their capacity keeps them cool even under a 15 amp load, well within their derating curve for optimal functioning. This design choice ensures the longevity of Evenheat's SSRs for the lifespan of the unit.

Efficient cooling is crucial for SSR performance, and Evenheat addresses this by mounting SSR heatsinks externally, allowing for unobstructed airflow. Avoiding internal mounting prevents heat buildup and premature component failure, enhancing the lifecycle of the SSRs. These heatsinks are placed on standoffs to create a gap between the control enclosure and the SSR, promoting airflow and preventing heat transfer. This design has proven its effectiveness with a 6-year record of zero failures.
