Read on to understand what makes the LB Series the Shop Standard for so many

Side-Only Element Design

The LB Series was innovatively designed with the needs of culinary bladesmiths in mind, particularly those crafting long, thin blades. These artisans required a solution that allowed them to utilize the full length of the chamber without the risk of overheating their blades near the back wall. By reimagining the design and eliminating the rear wall heating element, Evenheat successfully met this challenge.

In the LB Series, the temperature distribution from front to back is remarkably uniform. The placement of items within the chamber has no impact on heat distribution, enabling full utilization of the chamber's length.

With its exclusive side-only element design, the LB Series sets a new benchmark in the field!

Side Opening Door

Heat treating involves the extraction of extremely hot materials from the chamber for the quenching process. Understandably, everything within the chamber, including the door, becomes intensely hot. The doors on the LB models are ingeniously designed to swing out and to the side. This design advantageously positions the intensely hot door away from you, allowing you to focus safely and efficiently on your task.

Cool Touch Handle

Evenheat's swing-out door features a handle/latch that is strategically placed at the front of the door for easy access, rather than being concealed on the side. This handle, crafted from phenolic material, remains cool to the touch, and its one-handed design doubles as the door latch, combining convenience and functionality.

Relay Access Port

Every LB model features the user-friendly Relay Access Port, designed for effortless relay replacement without the need to dismantle the panel.

To access the relay, simply remove the access plate - no need to detach the control panel or delve into the intricate internal wiring. The process is straightforward, efficient, and requires nothing more than a screwdriver.

Given the inevitability of mechanical relay failure over time, this convenient relay access port becomes an invaluable feature for easy maintenance.

Door Shield

The LB models are equipped with a door shield, which serves the dual purpose of protecting the firebrick from damage and reducing the heat exposure at the door and handle, enhancing both durability and safety.

The Power Interrupt Switch significantly improves safety by automatically disconnecting power to the heating elements whenever the door is opened and re-establishing power once the door is closed.

This feature utilizes a specialized safety switch, meticulously engineered for such essential functions. The design of this switch is particularly robust, with a mechanism that forcefully separates and opens contacts that might have welded or stuck together, providing authentic safety and dependability.

Do you want to steer clear of the issues and maintenance expenses that come with mechanical relay breakdowns?

Then consider the Quiet Drive Solid State Relay option, available in all LB Series models.

Evenheat confidently anticipates that its solid state relay will endure for the entire lifespan of your unit. We highly recommend it. Continue reading to understand why.

Close up of Evenheat's Quite Drive Solid State Relay System

What is a Relay?

Solid state relays (SSRs) present a durable and reliable alternative to conventional mechanical relays, which rely on metal contacts that open and close through an electrically arcing magnet coil. In contrast, SSRs are made of a solid semiconductor material, eliminating the need for moving parts and electrical arcing. In kilns, SSRs offer improved temperature control and several advantages over mechanical relays.

Benefit 1 - Enhanced Longevity

The absence of moving parts and electrical arcing in SSRs leads to a significantly extended lifespan compared to mechanical relays. The familiar clicking sound from a kiln or furnace is an indication of mechanical relays in action. These relays degrade over time due to constant cycling on and off, resulting in costly repairs. Evenheat's SSRs, on the other hand, ensure quiet and reliable operation over the lifespan of your kiln or oven.

Benefit 2 - Accurate Temperature Control

Mechanical relays can only cycle as short as 10 to 14 seconds, balancing control and relay life. This duration is sufficient for decent control but not for extremely precise temperature management. SSRs, however, operate remarkably at 120 cycles per second, enabling faster adjustments and consequently more exact temperature control. All Evenheat controls are designed to take advantage of the speed of an SSR.

Benefit 3 - Improved Heating Element Longevity

Evenheat's LB Series Heat Treating Oven utilizes SSRs equipped with Zero Crossing technology, which activates or deactivates at precisely 0V during AC power line changes. This significantly extends the lifespan of heating elements compared to mechanical relay-powered elements without this technology. Zero Crossing ensures that heating elements receive the correct voltage, optimizing their longevity.

Design Feature - 30 Amp Rating

Evenheat selected top-quality SSRs rated for 30 amps but operates them at a safer 15 amps, providing a margin for longevity and dependable performance. Operating SSRs at half their rated capacity keeps them cooler under a 15 amp load, staying within their optimal performance curve. This decision contributes to the long-term durability of Evenheat's SSRs throughout the unit's life.

Design Feature - Externally Mounted SSR Heatsinks

Effective cooling is key for SSR functionality. Evenheat addresses this by externally mounting SSR heatsinks, facilitating unhindered airflow. By avoiding internal mounting, they prevent heat accumulation and early component failure, thus improving the SSRs' lifecycle. These heatsinks are placed on standoffs, creating space between the control enclosure and the SSR, which promotes air circulation and minimizes heat transfer. This design has proven its effectiveness, demonstrating a six-year record of zero failures.

Effective temperature management is essential for kiln operations. Evenheat, in partnership with SDS Industries and Bartlett Instrument, provides state-of-the-art design, technology, and performance in their kiln control systems. Among these, the standout is the TAP, a sophisticated touchscreen controller suitable for all types of firing and heat processing, representing the pinnacle of control technology. For those who favor a classic approach, the RampMaster 3 delivers comprehensive firing control with a user-friendly four-digit interface.

RampMaster 3

The RampMaster 3 is a benchmark in heat treating ovens, featuring a four-digit display and equipped with twelve program slots for custom heat treat routines. Its user-friendly numbered keypad and program review key enhance the user experience. Significantly, it integrates with the Quiet Drive Solid State Relay System, providing superior control and convenience. This synergy makes the RampMaster 3 a top choice for kiln temperature regulation.

TAP II

The Evenheat TAP II is a leading-edge temperature controller, blending easy usability, robust functionality, and user-friendly features. It simplifies program access with its clear text displays. The TAP II assists in creating and refining programs to precision, offering unlimited storage capacity without the risk of data loss. Known for its consistent and accurate performance, especially when combined with the Quiet Drive Solid State output, it ensures outstanding results. Moreover, the TAP II features connectivity options through Wi-Fi or Ethernet ports, compatible with its app for iOS and Android, solidifying its status as a remarkable and innovative control tool.
