Control Center

Intelligent Design of the Studio Pro 24: Separated Power Components

The Studio Pro 24 features an ingenious design that isolates all power components from the kiln chamber, relocating them to a dedicated control center at the rear of the kiln base.

This design choice is strategic, ensuring that vital power components are maintained in a cooler environment, away from the heat of the chamber. This not only makes them less visible but also enhances their longevity and efficiency. The introduction of this control center marks a significant and beneficial shift from conventional kiln designs.

Versatile 2-Position Lid Venting

The Studio Pro 24 comes with a two-position lid vent system, adaptable to various firing needs.

The first vent position slightly opens the lid by approximately one inch, ideal for expelling fumes from adhesives and other low-temperature binding materials.

In its second setting, the vent expands the lid opening to around four inches, greatly improving the cooling efficiency of the kiln.

Fiber Lid Construction

The lid of the Studio Pro 24 is crafted from a unique fiber material, selected specifically for its outstanding thermal characteristics and lightweight nature. Ingeniously, the heating elements are positioned on the surface of the lid to optimize heat distribution and boost firing efficiency.

The chosen fiber for the lid is remarkable for its extremely low-shot quality, and this is further enhanced by a layer of no-shot fiber sheet. This combination not only contributes to the lid's lightness but also significantly reduces the chance of debris from the lid contaminating the glass. This thoughtful design aspect underscores a commitment to both careful craftsmanship and operational efficiency.

Advancing Kiln Technology: The Superiority of Solid-State Relays

Solid-State Relays (SSRs) mark a revolutionary step forward from traditional mechanical relays, which depend on physical metal contacts and electromagnets. By employing a solid semiconductor block, SSRs eliminate all moving parts, thereby reducing physical wear and significantly enhancing temperature control in kilns.

Advantage 1 - Enhanced Durability:

SSRs boast a remarkably long service life, free from the mechanical wear and tear and electrical arcing that are common in mechanical relays, thus outperforming their predecessors. Traditional kilns, typically characterized by a noticeable clicking sound indicative of mechanical relay usage and wear, stand in contrast to the silent and reliable operation of Evenheat's SSRs, which dramatically extend their lifespan.

Advantage 2 - Superior Temperature Control:

While mechanical relays have a limited cycling frequency, often oscillating every 10 to 14 seconds to balance control effectiveness and lifespan, SSRs can cycle as frequently as 120 times per second. This rapid cycling allows for quicker adjustments and incredible temperature precision, a feature that enhances every Evenheat control system, including the sophisticated Icon controller.

Advantage 3 - Prolonged Heating Element Life:

Employing Zero Crossing technology, SSRs activate at the zero-voltage point of AC power cycles, which significantly prolongs the life of heating elements. This method ensures operation at optimal voltage levels, thereby reducing wear compared to the less precise mechanical relays.

Design Excellence - 30 Amp Capacity:

Evenheat carefully selects 30-amp rated SSRs but operates them at a conservative 15 amps. This design strategy offers a significant safety margin, ensuring the SSRs work comfortably within their derating curve, even under a 15-amp load. This leads to cooler operation and an extended lifespan, reflecting Evenheat's dedication to high-quality design.

Design Excellence - Externally Mounted SSR Heatsinks:

The longevity of SSRs heavily relies on effective cooling, a need Evenheat addresses by externally mounting the SSR heatsinks. This enhances airflow and prevents heat accumulation inside the control box. The design prevents heat transfer between the enclosure and the SSRs, with standoffs creating an air gap for additional cooling. This strategic design choice ensures optimal SSR performance, backed by an impressive six-year track record of zero failures.
