Unlike traditional top-loading kilns, the CS26 features a single-opening clamshell design that lifts the entire lid and wall assembly upward, providing unobstructed access to the kiln floor. This allows artists to build large fused glass panels, arrange intricate compositions, position molds, and assemble complex projects directly on the kiln shelf without reaching over kiln walls or disturbing carefully placed materials.

The CS26 utilizes a sophisticated heating system designed to provide exceptional temperature uniformity throughout the chamber. Top-mounted heating elements are enclosed within quartz tubes that help protect the elements from debris while promoting clean, efficient radiant heating. Three additional rows of sidewall heating elements are recessed into precision-cut firebrick grooves, creating balanced heat distribution from both the top and sides of the chamber. This combination is particularly beneficial when firing larger projects that require consistent temperatures across the entire firing surface.
The quartz tube design provides several advantages beyond firing performance. By shielding the elements from contact with glass particles and foreign materials, the tubes help extend element life while maintaining a cleaner firing environment and reducing maintenance requirements.
Built for demanding professional use, the CS26 features a heavy-duty steel base, reversible firebrick floor, hand-selected insulating firebrick walls, and a reinforced steel lid cover with integrated ventilation. Air pistons assist with opening and closing the clamshell assembly, while a full-width cool-touch handle provides comfortable operation. A woven ceramic rope gasket cushions the lid while improving heat retention and helping maintain an effective chamber seal during firing.
