Inside, the SC2 features dual side-mounted heating elements (with no rear element), ensuring even heat distribution throughout the chamber. Its ceramic fiber insulation allows for fast heat-up times and efficient operation, while the compact chamber can accommodate up to three shelves of silver clay projects or small, delicate workpieces. A top vent with a tapered plug makes the kiln suitable for lost wax casting, and the 180° door swing provides easy access for loading and unloading.

Designed with both convenience and durability in mind, the SC2 includes a built-in base (no stand required), a ventilated case to keep exterior surfaces cooler, and a lightweight, portable design that makes it easy to move between locations. Not all kilns can use a collar, but Olympic’s Hot Box kilns can be ordered with a collar to expand versatility. A blank collar simply adds height to the firing chamber, while a bead collar adds the same height and includes a built-in bead or annealing door for quick-access lampwork projects.

This safety feature automatically cuts power to the heating elements whenever the kiln lid or door is opened. It prevents accidental burns, protects elements, and resumes power only when safely closed. (Also called an automatic lid shutoff on Olympic kilns.)
